Dr. Richard Giovannoli was born and raised in San Rafael, California, and first lived in Sonoma County in 1969.  After graduating from Sonoma State, he earned a teaching credential at University of California in Riverside.  He and his wife moved to the North Sacramento Valley, where he taught elementary school, earned a Masters in Education, became a school administrator, and had two kids--a girl and a boy.  He was appointed Principal of Middletown School and moved to Cobb Mt. in 1983.  He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2004, retired from education, and began an internship at Russian River Counselors under Dr. Tony Madrid.  He received his license to practice psychology in 2008. He and his Wife, Caryn have lived in Sebastopol since 1994 and opened the office there in 2009.

Dr. Giovannoli became interested in Narra
tive approaches to therapy while getting his doctorate at Saybrook in San Francisco.  He studied hypnosis under Dr. Madrid during his three year internship.  He became proficient with EMDR after completing advanced training under Dr. Philip Mansfield.  In 2009 he studied Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples under Drs.Sue Johnson and Scott Wooley.  He integrates these approaches within an existential-humanistic framework that is unique for each client.
